Kintsugi choker necklace with modern Japanese broken ceramic pieces .

This kintsugi neck piece is in choker style and features contemporary Japanese pottery broken and mended in the traditional Japanese Kintsugi technique. The pieces are joined together using a lquid mixture of zinc, copper and brass, which gives a bright gold appearance. Traditionally, real gold was used to mend broken ceramics.

The choker is gold plated brass , as is the attached pendant bail. The choker does up at the back with a parrot clasp and extension chain.

I have used a modern Japenese ceramic of plain black and blue and white stripe pottery pieces. The broken pieces of ceramic have been joined together using the liquid gold mixture. Over time, the philosophy behind the kintsugi technique came to be that anything broken can be fixed and made beautiful again. The wearer embraces their own flaws and imperfections.

The pendant itself measures 7.5cm length x 2.6cm at its widest. The choker ( neck ) circumference measures 36.5cm with an additional 2cm extension chain.
